Downhill Urban Assault: Valparaiso, Chile

Well, results are in for Copa Oxford’s 2011 Valparaiso Cerro Abajo Race. “What is this?” you ask. Pure insanity, coupled with an overdose of adrenalin. It’s reminiscent of a chase scene in one of those Bourne films. Finishing in 2:39:219, Polc Filip earns our recognition as the ‘Most Intense Downhill Racer’ upon the slopes of Chile.

A starting platform for this time trial event is positioned far within the foothills of a rural community. Pedal pushers kick out of the gate and instantly are presented a makeshift gauntlet of metal railings, abandoned cars, telephone poles, pedestrian staircases, stray dogs, lackadaisical locals and any other imaginable obstacle that could present itself to a hyper-focused biker. Operating with cat-like reflexes, the VCA racer acquires breakneck speed, until the course ends with a show-stopping maneuver upon the crowded urban streets of Valparaiso.

Donning a pinstripe suit, one VCA participant has provided us with his helmet cam video feed; watch it below.  No guts–no glory!
