Costa Rica’s Central Valley Jewel: Xandari

Rarely does one find the apotheosis of their destination only twenty minutes from port of entry, yet for the Costa Rican traveler such totality of benign climate, bountiful scenery, honorable staff, discreet villas and exclusive amenities exist; all as components of the Central Valley’s Xandari Resort and Spa. This creation could only be mastered with the collaboration of multiple skill-sets, or as in this case, by a strong and symbiotic pair: California architect Sherrill Broudy and his lovely wife, artist and designer Charlene Broudy.

The flow of his structural design and the bounty or her work offer serene, unique viewpoints within an inspirational setting. Resting upon the former site of a coffee plantation, high in the hills overlooking the central valley of San Jose, guests arrive through botanical gardens and are welcomed by a staff of dedicated and thoughtful hosts and hostesses. Each of its 21 villas are incredibly spacious. With flowing corners and rich, complementary colors, these individual works of art provide complete privacy. Walls are adorned with paintings, charming mosaics and brilliantly colorful tapestries. Each structure is different and provides the visitor with private paths to the on-site spa, restaurant and panoramic views which accompany their pools and jacuzzis.

Over forty acres of gardens and trails endlessly wind amongst the bountiful mango, avocado, guanabana, orange and carambola trees. The more adventurous can navigate well maintained nature trails down tumbling slopes, to five different waterfalls, one of which is over seventy feet high. With a position at 3,900 feet of elevation, the resort provides an ideal climate: year-round 70 degree temperatures.

To no surprise, Xandari is both a Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure Top 10 Central & South American Resort. Discover the essense of pura vida within Xandari Resort and Spa. And to think, this destination is only a twenty minute cab ride to the airport. Incredible. Without question our future travel to Costa Rica will end within the grounds of Xandari.

Xandari’s Central Valley location can be found here. Be sure to also consider visiting Xandari by the Pacific, upon Playa Esterillo Este.
