Machu Picchu 3D Google Earth Modeling: Cuzco Region, Peru

Thanks to laser data collected by University of Arkansas scientists, an excact 3D replica of the infamous “lost city of the Incas” – Machu Picchu of Peru – is availble for exploration online. Thanks are due to Peter Olson, for over a thousand hours in Google Earth and Google Sketch-up, to make this happen.

This pre-Colombian site, considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, can be viewed from every conceivable angle, thanks to permissions to collection information from under the authority of the Instituto Nacional de Cultura, Vladimir Dávila – Arquitecto del P.A.N Machu Picchu, Director del P.A.N Machu Picchu Direccion Regional de Cultura Cusco and Fernando Astete – National Archaeological Park of Machu Picchu.

Now you can wonder through every terrace, building and staircase, to the accuracy of within 10 centimeters. This is a must-see for those planning on touring the Peruvian grounds.
