Machu Picchu: 100 Years Ago Today

Machu Picchu from the Guard House | by: Alex E. Proimos

One hundred years ago today, Hiram Bingham III, U.S. Senator, academic and adventurer, told the world of his incredulous discovery–that of a lost city in Peru. Machu Picchu, otherwise known as “Old Peak” to native South American Quechuans, is now recognized as one of the seven new wonders of the world. Recently we posted about an amazing 3D Google earth modeling of Machu Picchu, allowing people around the world access to this pre-Colombian empire of the Incas.  Cheers, Mr. Bingham, to such an other-worldly discovery!
